Edging is installed around the planting areas to keep liners and growing medium in place. Drain access boxes are placed over the roof drains to allow inspection of the drains once the soil is installed. Recycled plastic lumber is used for the edging so that children are not exposed to splinters and pressure treated lumber. (NEXT)

The lawn area will be irrigated by "trickle irrigation". The water will be supplied from below in a layer of course granular material. For this type of irrigation to work, the levels of the roof surface have to be adjusted carefully. Insulation boards are placed to raise up low points and bring the whole irrigated area within a 2" tolerance.
