Since the outside hoist was removed already, the approximately 15 cubic yards of custom mixed soilless growing medium and drainage medium had to be bagged and is brought to the roof through the building.(NEXT)

Turf grasses need growing medium that is able to provide the necessary nutrients, hold enough water and is deep enough to sustain good growth. Also the growing medium for this project had to be ultra light so that the weight bearing capacity of the roof would not be surpassed. This is why the engineering of the right mix for this project was extremely important for the overall success of this installation.
