Design Studio

Our landscape design studio specializes in NYC's unique urban environments, structures, and climate. The projects below span the range of what a New York garden can be: an 800-square-foot Greenwich Village brownstone backyard, a wind-exposed amenity terrace 30 floors above Tribeca, a parlor-level planting scheme measured in inches of soil depth. Each was shaped by its own constraints of light, weight limits, exposure, and the rhythm of how the space is actually used. Our material palette shifts to meet the space and the client: natural stone, porcelain, ipe, weathered metals, lime plaster, and more, chosen because they age into a space rather than out of it. Plantings are adapted species selected for Zone 7b winters and rooftop wind, layered for interest in every season rather than a single peak in June. The result, in each case, is a garden that reads as part of the building it belongs to.
